Facing the Future 26th Annual Conference

Kristen Russell, Assistive Technology Specialist, will present “Achieving Greater Independence in the Workplace through Assistive Technology,” Workshop 15, 10:55 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

“Assistive technology tools can enable people with disabilities in the workplace to be more independent and productive at their job tasks,” she says. “In this workshop on support strategies, focus will be on assistive technology tools that are mobile or wearable, and thus can be used in various work environments. We will discuss tools to help workers who have difficulty completing multistep tasks, staying on task, remembering important information at work, and completing work-related reading and writing tasks.”

We’ll be there, too! Jason Resnick, Assistive Technology Specialist, will be on hand to answer questions and give product demonstrations. “This event will allow families with a disabled loved one an opportunity to gather information that may be of assistance to them.” There will also be many family-friendly activities.

Cooper Learning Center Fifth Annual Facets of Dyslexia Conference

Vanessa Lombardo, Assistant Director of the Assistive Technology, will present “The iPad—What’s in it? Apps & Strategies for Supporting Students with Print Disabilities,” Workshop 1, Afternoon Session 2, 1:50 to 3:30 p.m.

“In this workshop, we will look at accessibility features built into the iPad to support students with print disabilities,” says Vanessa. “We will also look at different apps to support students with print disabilities and how they might be implemented. Learning objectives include increasing knowledge of apps to convert print and digital materials, gaining strategies to convert inaccessible materials, and advancing knowledge of resources for finding appropriate apps.”

Assistive Technology Services Events

Individuals will have a hands-on opportunity to try out and learn more about Assistive Technology devices.

Fred Tchang, Director of Assistive Technology Services, and other members of his team will be a major part of the Assistive Technology Showcase, at booth 143.

Members of Advancing Opportunities’ Assistive Technology Team will be hosting the AT Pavilion, with a variety of AT tools, devices, and apps attendees can try. This is an opportunity for people with disabilities, their families, teachers, and employers to identify and learn to use technology that will be most effective in meeting their goals. LDA NJ High School Transition Conference & Resource Expo

TCNJ, The College of New Jersey, 2000 Pennington Rd., Education Bldg., Ewing, NJ

Norm Rothstein, Assistive Technology Specialist, will present “Assistive Technology Supports for Transition,” Workshop 3, Session A, 8:45 to 10:00 a.m.

“Navigating assistive technology services to obtain devices after a student graduates can be quite a challenge,” says Norm. “How do I obtain devices and support services after my student graduates? How can I recommend supports for students if I don’t know what kind of devices/solutions are available? This presentation will provide an overview of the content areas of assistive technology and will also discuss how New Jersey structures its financial access to receive assistive technology solutions for students transitioning out of high school. We will discuss the differences between available service options based each student’s future plans. Participants will leave with a guide for state services, along with a tool for categorizing and considering assistive technology.”
