“When I am here, I’m Home.” That is how Lochart Prophete describes his work with the residents of the Robbinsville group home, José R., Levi J., and Vito N. For his dedication to the guys, Stephanie Rutledge, Residential Support Leader, nominated Lochart for Direct Support Professional of the month.
Back in his native Haiti, Lochart was un professeur, a high school teacher of French. When he immigrated to the United States, Lochart started a taxi business. Over time, however, his wife expressed her concern about Lochart needing more stability in his work. His wife found employment working with people with disabilities; she felt it would be better and he would like to do the same. Deciding to give the field a try, Lochart joined Advancing Opportunities.
So, Lochart joined the team at the Robbinsville residence. Indeed, what he likes best is “taking care of the guys.” Unlike his sitting in the driver’s seat all day, he enjoys the physical activity of being a Residential Support Specialist. “It’s fun for me to move around,” he says. His mobility extends beyond the Robbinsville home. For example, he took José, Levi, and Vito for an outing at the theatre.
“He goes with the flow,” says Stephanie Rutledge, the Senior Residential Manager. “He’s very dedicated.” In fact, she adds, “He’s completely hands on, very supportive and helpful.
“I love it,” Lochart says. “It’s like home here.” Without doubt, the three residents feel that way, too.
