With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, love was the ever-present theme at our community-based respite events. Although feelings of love are present year round, this was a time for recognizing the part this emotion plays in the minds of the children, teens, and adults in our programs and, most important, the dedicated staff who care for them. The two events over the weekend were the Weekend Recreation Valentine’s Day celebration and Adults’ Night Out Arts in the Afternoon program.
Relaxing and Socializing at Arts In the Afternoon
Once a month, men and women of our Adults’ Night Out program (Morris, Sussex, and Warren counties) spend a relaxing Sunday creating crafts, listening to music, enjoying conversation, playing board games, and taking an afternoon walk. Last Sunday, we also had our Valentine-themed art supplies available for making cards and other crafts, along with the adult coloring books so many enjoy.
Enjoying a Weekend Recreation Valentine’s Day Party
Elephants raised their trunks to form a heart. A unicorn showed off her pink appendage. A large cat said, “I’m not lion; I love you!” The creatures may not have been real, but the love was! The men and women of our Weekend Recreation program (Passaic and Essex counties) enjoyed a Valentine’s Day-themed BINGO game with these fantasy creatures and created colorful multimedia cards.
