Your car got you where you needed to go. Now that you’re ready for a new vehicle, donate your old one to Advancing Opportunities and help people with disabilities get where they need to be.
There are two simple ways to donate. Before you start, be sure to have the year, make and model of the vehicle, the condition it’s in, the vehicle identification number, and the title or lien in hand.
Complete the Online Form
Click here to access the online donation form.
- Fill in the form and in the elect a Charity drop down menu, scroll down and highlight NJ Advancing Opportunities.
- Once you hit the “Submit” button, you will receive an e-mail notification, normally within hours, providing pickup and processing instructions.
- Our local towing agency will call you within 24 hours to make any towing arrangements before picking up your donated car. You must have your original car title and, if applicable, lien release. Our towing company will not pick-up the donated vehicle without the title.
- Your personal information is safe with us and will not be used for anything except for the sole purpose of processing your car donation.

Benefits of Donating to Advancing Opportunities
Advancing Opportunities, Inc. accepts cars, vans, trucks, boats with a trailer, and recreational vehicles. Here are a few reasons to consider donating your vehicle:
- Free towing whether your vehicle is running or not.
- You can donate your automobile from anywhere in the country.
- Eliminates the hassle of repairing, advertising and selling your car
- Potential IRS tax deduction
- The donation program supports Advancing Opportunities’ vision of providing services of the highest quality.
What Happens Once a Vehicle is Collected?
After your vehicle has been picked up, it will be taken to an auction facility. Within 30 days of the vehicle being sold at auction, Charity Car Donations will send a letter indicating the amount the vehicle was sold for. NOTE: The minimum a donor can claim for a donated vehicle is $500. If the vehicle sells for $501 or greater, an IRS form 1098C, indicating the exact amount of the sale, will be included with your letter.
Maximize Your Tax Deduction
Car donations made to a charitable nonprofit organization may be tax-deductible. The best practice is to consult with a tax professional on how to maximize your tax deduction since every car donation and tax situation is unique.
For more information about donating a vehicle download IRS Publication 430, “Donor’s Guide to Vehicle Donations.”
Advancing Opportunities, Inc. has partnered with Melwoods’ Charity Car Donation Center, a non-profit agency, to manage and operate its car donation program. Since 1963, Melwood has provided job training and employment for over 2,000 individuals with disabilities. The proceeds from the sale of your vehicle will support Advancing Opportunities’ mission, as well as Melwood’s important programs.
